The original name for "Overwhelmed" was "Apples," as in "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." The opening cast was also a lot bigger, with the mom in there two, three kids, no dog, and a parent living with them, and there's a bit of the jokey angle of the grandpa being an ex-world adventurer/"action man" type. I knew at this point that I wanted to do a family-style strip (I'd gotten the bug after doing "Waffles"), but didn't know exactly how to get to it.

I did this "promo" piece after I'd done a few strips but hadn't launched yet. It's super-quick, super-dirty, super-done with a sharpie and ballpoint pen. This on my blog was the first time I'd shown off the characters and premise at all.
